Underwriting training program
Markel’s underwriting training program is a premier, entry-level program designed to prepare our employees to be successful underwriters and future leaders. Our program is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to be successful in your role and beyond. You will gain valuable experience through on-the-job, technical and professional skills training as well as gaining exposure to our leaders and broader company operations. The formative years of any career are very important, and that’s why we offer the support, opportunities and community that new career professionals need to accelerate their career development.
Program design
In-person training
Graduates spend several weeks in different locations across the US with their peers building up their knowledge through a structured curriculum.
On-the-job training
Each graduate is assigned a trainer with specific product and role knowledge to help guide you through the program.
One-on-one mentorship
Each graduate is paired with a mentor and buddy to help encourage and support development.
Post-program training
The learning never stops. We continue to run trainings during the first 12 months of your career to help you continue your learning journey.
