Kyle McGrath, Head of Fine Art & Specie
In this episode, Anna speaks to Kyle McGrath, who joined Markel in June 2024 as Head of Fine Art & Specie – North America. Based out of our New York office, Kyle leads our Fine Art business in North America, working on our regional underwriting strategy, product offering and regional footprint. Kyle discusses the opportunity ahead at Markel and reflects on her career to this point, including spells at Private Client Select (formerly part of AIG) and AXA XL. She also looks at the Fine Art and Specie market generally and talks about what is in the pipeline.
Chris Burgess, Director of Cyber
For episode 4, we meet Chris Burgess, Director of Cyber. Chris joined Markel in 2019, starting out as London Cyber Manager before being promoted in November 2022. Chris delves into his extensive experience of the cyber insurance world, highlighting some of the most pertinent threats we face, as well as the ways in which utilising the right technology can mitigate those risks. Chris, who joined the London Market back in 2004, also reflects on the importance of having a great team and the success they have enjoyed at Markel to date.
Chris O’Shea, Managing Director of International Claims
In episode 3, we hear from Managing Director of International Claims, Chris O’Shea. Chris first joined Markel in 2017 and has held various claims leadership positions since, culminating in being promoted to his current role in early 2024. Chris manages a team of 75+ claims professionals around the world and leads on all things wholesale claims from a strategic standpoint. He is a member of the London Market Association Claims Committee and the Complex Claims Committee.
Chloe Gordge, Head of Terrorism for London
Episode 2 sees host Anna Lumley speak to Markel's new Head of Terrorism for London, Chloe Gordge. Chloe discusses the nuances of the terrorism market in the context of a busy year of sport and political decision making around the globe, touching on the skills required of an underwriter to anticipate and analyse events in such an environment.
