RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alan Kirshner, chairman
of Markel Corporation, announced today the promotion of Britt Glisson to chief
administrative officer of Markel Corporation. In that capacity, Mr. Glisson
will be responsible for assuring efficient, cost effective operations for
Markel Corporation in North America.
Mr. Glisson has been with Markel since 1990, first as chief financial
officer and later as president and chief operating officer of Essex Insurance
Company. In 1996, he became president/chief operating officer of Markel
Insurance Company, the position he held just prior to his promotion. Mr.
Glisson holds a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of Virginia.
Said Mr. Kirshner, "While at Markel, Britt has played an integral role in
a number of initiatives that have helped us grow our business and streamline
efficiencies. We are confident that his long-time operations experience and
administrative background make him the ideal choice to lead our efforts as
chief administrative officer."
Also today, Mr. Kirshner welcomed Mike Crowley who was newly appointed as
president of Markel Corporation's Specialty Division. Just prior to joining
Markel, Mr. Crowley was president of Willis HRH North America. Prior to Willis
HRH he held senior positions with Johnson & Higgins and Palmer Cay. Mr.
Crowley brings with him over 30 years experience in the insurance industry. He
also holds a B.A. degree in business from Wake Forest University.
In his new position, Mr. Crowley will be responsible for Markel
Corporation specialty insurance business, which includes Markel Insurance
Company and Markel American Insurance Company. "With his knowledge of our
industry and leadership experience, we look forward to the innovative
perspective Mike will surely bring to his new position with Markel," said Mr.
Kirshner.
