Stuart Smith

Stuart Smith joined Markel in April 2006 as an Assistant Underwriter in our Marine & Energy team. He has worked at Markel since, with promotions to Underwriter, Senior Underwriter and now Head of Midstream Energy. His underwriting background is in Upstream and Midstream Energy, and is a market leader in Midstream Energy. Stuart is responsible for setting our strategy to grow a profitable, market-leading Midstream book of business.

Stuart holds an MA in Geography from the University of St Andrews. He lives in Suffolk with his wife and two young children, and enjoys gardening and countryside living in his spare time. He is a huge rugby fan and also has an obsession for cricket. Surrey CCC and Munster Rugby through and through!
