Simon Philpin

Simon Philpin joined Markel in May 2014 and is now Director of Trade Credit. Simon has worked in the credit insurance market since 2002, when he joined Atradius as a Risk Underwriter and remained until 2013, with his last position being Senior Risk Underwriter in their Special Risks department. In 2013, he joined Equinox in a risk and commercial role prior to joining Markel. Simon has been with Markel since 2014 holding multiple roles over this period, culminating in being promoted to his current position in 2024.

Simon was Chair of the UK Trade Credit Committee at the Association of British Insurers from 2021-23 and remains on the committee as a voting member. Prior to working in the credit insurance sector he worked in banking for HBOS. He is responsible for the strategic direction of the Trade Credit class which includes building relationships with both brokers and clients to ensure Markel maintains a first class product offering.

Simon holds an MBA from the University of South Wales. He splits his time between Swansea where his family resides and London where he stays during the week. His favourite film is The Martian and he loves to compete in triathlon-related events.
