Head of General Liability
James Murray joined Markel in July 2024 as Head of General Liability.
He began his career at Amlin in 2008, and was a founding member of the International Casualty team established in 2012. He moved to XL Catlin as Class Underwriter in 2018, before promotion to Underwriting Manager in 2021. He is responsible for building a new General Liability portfolio at Markel International and leading a strong Underwriting team. His aim is to provide market-leading service and expertise to his network of brokers and clients.
James holds a BA (Hons) in Ancient History & Archaeology from the University of Nottingham and holds his ACII qualification. He lives in Hackney with his wife and two children and his favourite book is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez.
