Ed Winter

Ed Winter joined Markel in 2010 as a Senior War and Terrorism Underwriter in our Marine & Energy Division, being promoted to Director of Global Terrorism.

He began his career in 1996 at the tender age of 16 working for QBE’s Professional Indemnity team, 2 years later moving into the newly-formed Terrorism team where he moved up the ranks over the next 10 years to Senior Underwriter. He then spent two years as a Senior Underwriter at Canopius, supporting a start up, before joining Markel to help build our Terrorism book. Markel is now one of the top 5 terrorism markets at Lloyd’s, seen as one of the top lead markets.

Ed is responsible for supporting the international team’s underwriters and growth, providing them with all tools needed to continue their success, along with building relationships to develop products required to support client needs.

Ed has been part of the LMA Terrorism Committee for the last five years. He lives in Essex with his wife, two daughters and a crazy Cockapoo, Belle. He enjoys attending Crossfit classes most evenings and plays golf in his spare time. He is also an avid cook, hosting family and friends most weekends.
