Ben House

Ben House joined Markel’s Marine & Energy division in 2009 as an Underwriting Assistant on the Cargo & Specie team. After six months, he moved to the Energy team as an Underwriting Assistant in the Upstream class, gaining full underwriting authority in 2013. After a period as a Senior Underwriter, Ben became Head of Upstream from 2018 and Director of Energy in 2023.

Ben oversees the underwriting teams writing conventional energy business within Markel International’s Marine & Energy division. This includes all upstream, midstream and downstream classes across three offices in London, UAE and Singapore.

Ben holds a BSc (Hons) in Physical Geography from the University of Exeter. He is an avid golfer (time and young family permitting!) and enjoys the social side of being around close friends, whether hosting at home or out and about across London. He also enjoys going to the cinema and good non-fiction books, favourites including those from the likes of Bill Browder and Michael Lewis.
