London, 2 April, 2025 — Markel, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL), today announced that it has appointed Erik Johnson as Head of Technical Underwriting and Oversight, effective immediately.
In this newly created position, Johnson will lead the International Technical Underwriting team and will be responsible for setting and maintaining high standards of technical underwriting. Additionally, Johnson will have oversight of the Wordings team, working closely with Head of Wordings, Chloe Adams, to provide strategic direction across the business.
Johnson will be based in London and will report to Nick Line, Chief Underwriting Officer – Markel International.
Line commented: “I’m thrilled to be working closely with Erik in his new position at Markel. “Erik not only brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role, but also a passion for the industry and for developing new talent. In this newly created position, I’m confident Erik will ensure the highest standards of technical underwriting are maintained across the business for our brokers and insureds.”
Johnson joined Markel in May 2024 as a consultant. Prior to Markel, Johnson held Active, Deputy Active and syndicate management roles in the London market. Jonhson co-founded Link, the LGBT Insurance Network in 2012, and remains an active voice for diversity and inclusion in insurance and holds several board and advisory positions within the industry.
